Electric bicycle classes and local authority

Florida defines three e-bike classes under 750 watts and generally gives them bicycle rights without motor-vehicle licensing or registration. Riders under 16 must wear helmets. A 2025 law authorizes local governments to regulate e-bikes on streets, sidewalks, paths, trails, and beaches, set minimum ages, and require photo identification.

Manatee County

E-bike age, class, sidewalk-speed, and pedestrian-yield rules

In unincorporated areas, the ordinance regulates e-bikes on public roads, pathways, sidewalks, crosswalks, and intersections, including age and class limits, sidewalk speed, motor power, and pedestrian yielding. The County adopted Ordinance 25-35 on July 29, 2025; Florida filing controls its effective date, which was not established here.
