  • Electric bicycle classes, age, helmets, and paths: Maryland defines three classes up to 750 watts. Class 1 and 2 path use may be prohibited; Class 3 path use is generally limited to a path adjacent to a highway right-of-way or agency-authorized locations. Operators under 16 may not operate Class 3 on a public highway except as passengers. The general bicycle helmet law requires riders under 16 to wear helmets.
